Babalou wedding Kingscliff
We had the pleasure of photographing Lara and Stuart’s incredible wedding in Kingscliff, Northern NSW. It was the perfect day for these two with brilliant weather. We absolutely loved spending the whole day with them and their wonderful bridal party, family and guests. Their ceremony was held just shy of the beach at Jack Bayliss Park which just kisses the sand, five minutes north of the centre township. The cocktail wedding reception was just down the road at Babalou which is situated above the Kingscliff Beach Hotel on Marine Parade; which has a gorgeous view of the ocean for the wedding guests.
Congratulations Lara and Stu! Thank you for choosing Matt and I as your wedding photographers and I can’t wait to show you your gorgeous wedding album xo
How did you two first meet?
Stuart and I met at a friend’s party on the Gold Coast. I definitely noticed him straight away. We got on very well that night and things just worked from there. There may have been a little bit of alcohol involved that night.
I don’t think there was any particular moment when I knew Stu was the one. I think we had been together for about 2 years and one day I just looked back and realised how easy and fun the past 2 years had been. I suppose at that point I realised that we might stay together for the long haul.
Tell us about the proposal.
The proposal was amazing. We were about halfway through our trip around Australia. I didn’t expect the proposal anymore, in fact , I was pretty sure it was never coming. It occurred on a deserted northern Kimberly beach in Western Australia, truly one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever been to. My ring was a local pearl from the pearl farm 15 min down the road from the resort we were staying at. Stu had called my parents a few days before and told them he was going to propose.
Tell us the one thing you love most about each other.
I love the way stu makes me feel so loved.
Stu becomes obsessed with hobbies quite quickly, they consume him for about 3 months then he finds a new one.
I was most looking forward to seeing all my family and friends together. However, the highlight for me was actually seeing stu at the end of the aisle and then having the ceremony with him holding hands. It was really special and I didn’t think that would be my favourite bit before the wedding.
What would your advice be to upcoming brides?
Be organised, you want things organised and people to know their jobs by two days out, that way the day before and on the day is relaxing and you can just concentrate on beauty things. I would recommend just picking one or two things to do yourself for the wedding.
What’s something that you wish you would have known earlier in regards to planning?
My Bridesmaid Jane made me organised, she showed me how to do a run sheet and modelled how to plan the day out. I wish I had booked my entertainment earlier, it was hard to find live music with in the time frame of 5-6 mths.
Tell us about your décor or theme? What was your inspiration for that?
I tried to stick with white and yellow with a little pink. The venue babalou had such cool decorations I didn’t do much up there other than lots of candles and flowers. I had some native flowers on the table that were just beautiful and reminded me of our trip around Australia.
Tell us a little about what brought you to choose the venue & location for your ceremony and reception.
We had been to Babalou before and loved the décor and vibe. Kingscliff is a holiday destination for us and we love the beach. So it was pretty easy to pick the location.
